colouring
as for now, if you are ready to colour,
1)please colour your animation following Frank's colour guide for Evil Stevil
2)FRANK, can you put up a colour guide for death as well, if its in previous post, would u mind
reposting again, thanks!
3)Kayla, since your the only one having to do crowd characters, please use my colourkeys
to colour the crowds. if u have questions lemme know, ill be @ skoo on monday and tomorrow(sat).
4) there might be some colouring affect(lighting) that i want to try, so please do not combine
bg layer with character layer yet. Just colour your animation for now is enough and don't even
output them into avi YET.
5) for ppl colouring the dead stevil(sq3), could u wait again until thursday, having said that, please go ahead and colour death if you wish. again, im also looking into a glowing effect for stevil.
keep you guys posted.

leica response
in response to the leica, i liked most of it, but some of it could still be cut, a lot of it actually.
but the new stuff thats happening in the jump made me laugh. i guess its suppose to be cheesy rite?! and the end is a bit more together than before so thats good as well.
as for the new version or not....it doesn't matter as long as what the group decides, maybe we can vote on this blog? but we should stick to it and resolve the problem we face and not jump on a new idea everytime we get stuck. that being said, im not saying which idea is better or not, its just b/c we gotta finish this sometime b4 semester 2 ends and so theres not a whole lot of time to jump around. ideally we would all like to explore every possible story ideas that we have, but right now we just can't afford it.
for the new script, id suggest that ppl who wants to take part could get together and work on it and post the scripts on the blog for rest of the group to comment. ideally if we get through few revisions of the script during this holiday, we probably be in good shape when we come back. if the scripts tight and clear then boarding stage wouldn't be that big of a problem.
this is my experience from the summer having worked on a short film w/ fellow 3rd yr students. we got a lot done during summer with about 6 members. (in the production stage when school started ) for those who wants to see what our beat script, here it is CLICK ME!
this is the final version and we've gone through about 5+ revisions.
we basically boarded from the script and changes were made based on the critiques of the leica.
anyways, let me know what the rest thinks, my vote is for the old idea. :P

Thursday Meeting
MONDAY AT 1
In the meeting we desided that everyone should take 1 page of our pitch and make that their main focus. Here are all of our roles...
- Title Page: Haine
- 4 - 8 story beats : Vivian, Frank, SiYeun
- Research: Everyone should partake in this, but Haine will put it all together
- Evil Stevil: this is pretty much done, we desided in the meeting to go with Rory's design, but maybe a little harsher in character
- Death: done, also in the meeting we desided to go with Matt design of the head with Franks design on the body.
- Evil Stevil vs. Death (relationship): Rory
- apartment design, with prop: Jack
- Model jump: Veronika
- Real Jump: Matt
- Wheelchair Design: Igor
- Crowd Design: Kayla
- Podeum with props (this could include the models): Tracy
- Crazy Cooter and his apartment: Jason
- Compiling picture on pitch and spell check: Nabeel
Remember everyone has been assigned a main focus, that means it needs to be developed to line work. We are NOT colouring our pictures, we need to first deside on a colour pallette. Also, we can explore in other areas that are listed above, just muke sure your assigned areas are finished.
THIS ALL MUST BE DONE AND READ FOR OUR MONDAY MEETING! :D
Here are the notes we made on the jump today......
HAVE FUN!!!!

Rory's Pre-Pitch Notes
Good job on the pre-pitch everyone. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to post any notes we may have taken during the discussion with Natalie; she had some good suggestions that could really work for our story. Also, when she was explaining what our final pitch could include I made a quick list… apparently there was an example on the server all along, so I guess we should check that out too.
Notes:
- Mark suggests using the touch of death – I thought this might be something subtle to include right before ES pushes off down the ramp – perhaps Death gives him a supportive pat on the shoulder.
- Death’s Motivation needs more clarification – THIS IS THE BIG ONE – In the first sequence in ES’s apartment we need to establish their relationship to explain why Death’s position changes. He is comfortable living with ES and he never really thought it would end – he has long since given up on Steve ever finishing the contraption that will bring an end to their time together. Relationship: Old Couple, Show how much death cares for ES (perhaps Death puts out the fire on ES’s model after he has run off in excitement?) Dialogue both while ES is working on the model, and after he is finished, could help define their relationship. Death - internal conflict between his job and his personal feelings.
(Some ideas: Missing jumping-pants; Toilet seat left up –“you know I like to sit while I urinate!”; trophies – remember how you did this and that, you don’t need to prove anything; a pivotal character moment where Death realizes what the completion of the contraption really means; Death’s increasing concern about the jump (now that it is a reality); Stevil is confused as to why Death all of a sudden doesn’t want him to jump – the relationship is one way.)
- The Jump Contraption needs to be developed. We already decided to have a meeting about this on Thurs. Natalie suggested Heath Robinson as a reference for crazy contraptions. *Remember the jump took decades for ES to work out.
Presentation improvement:
Specifically the pitch should probably include (AT LEAST):
- A Title Page.
- 4-8 polished storytelling beats.
- Research - characters, jump, 60's atmosphere, etc.
- 1 page of Evil Stevil design
- 1 page of Death design
- 1 page of Evil Stevil/Death relationship development
- 1 page apartment design, with props: trophies, pictures, TV etc.
- 1 page of MODEL jump contraption design
- 1 page wheelchair design
- 1 page FINAL JUMP location design
- 1 page Crowd designs
- 1 page podium design – swimsuit models, trophy, stage etc.
- 1 page Crazy Cooter and his apartment design
Ultimately as heads of story and design Frank and Nabs are the ones to decide how to best handle all of this, but I thought I'd just get the info out there for everyone to mull over.

Supervisors & Group Resume
Design: Nabeel
Story: Frank [assist. Tracy]
If anyone wants to put their name in lemme know! Also here is our group resume.... again if anyone wants to add something let me know quick! I will check this post one more time before I go to bed tonight around 11!!
Group Resume
As an enthusiastic team, we have decided as a whole to produce a successful and entertaining short animated film. Together we have discussed time management and have decided that we would rather be ambitious in the facet of animation, then in the time that has been allocated to us. We also agree that we must have a strong sense of story and character before moving forward with the production process.
Together we sat down and evaluated our own personal strengths and weaknesses. As a collective group we have come to the conclusion that our strengths lie in the field of animation. With a variety of character and effects animators, we believe that our diversity of talent will assist in the success of our film. We have also learned that, although we have a few very talented layout artists, collectively we are weak in this aspect of the pipeline. Recognizing our combined weakness, we all aspire to become better layout artists throughout the stages of our film.
We all look forward to working together and are excited to grow as artist and animators.
Statement of Intent
We aspire to work as a team of artistic individuals within a fun, positive and harmonious environment. Our goal is to produce a successful short animated film, with an emphasis on quality over quantity. We hope to reach a larger audience, entertaining both the young and old.
